So you want to build a traning program?

Yamilee Francois
Training and Development Manager   Florida State University | Facilities

The Covid -19 Pandemic brought on lots of challenges. These new undertakings highlighted strengths and weaknesses within our organizations. Educational institutions quickly saw the need to fill gaps in an unprecedented situation. Now that the dust has settled, the obligation to grow your staff and the consequences of not doing so are still fresh and sharply in the minds of leadership.
But where does one start? Maybe your organization already does training(s) but it is only focused on technical skills and/or safety. The pandemic may have unveiled how this was just not enough especially, as one looks toward the future.  Over the past year, FSU facilities have gone through an extensive process to build a training plan based on the value of investing in our people and comprehensive, cross-functional consensus building. Whether you are a staff of 100 or 1,000 the concepts are replaceable, scalable, and customizable to fit your needs.

Stay on Top of Your Buildings!
Implementing a Roof Management Plan at Your Facility

Facility managers are managing more buildings with less staff and budget than ever before. With many buildings to oversee, and less personnel available to stay current, it has become critical to develop organized methods for tracking past, current, and future building repairs. Facility managers are required to keep careful track of detailed repair histories and recommended repairs, while managing current and projected costs. A formal roof management plan (RMP) can assist in day-to-day operations and long-term planning.

The purpose of a well-defined RMP is to establish current and long-term budgeting for roof repairs/replacement. Facility managers are often expected to estimate the type, and more importantly, the cost of repairs necessary not only for the next year, but often for the next five to ten years. They seldom have the resources necessary to evaluate their roofs on a yearly basis and are forced to make educated guesses regarding the types of repair or replacements needed, based on the roofs’ history and age.

The presenter will discuss how formal facility management plans (FMP) can assist in the day-to-day operations and long-term planning. Case studies will also be presented.
