FLAPPA, the Florida Chapter of APPA

Welcome on behalf of the FLAPPA Executive Board and Work Group. 

We are coming off a very successful annual conference. The Work Group and the Facilities staff at St. Petersburg College are to be commended for their planning, preparation, and support of this past conference. The conference was well attended given the economic conditions pressing upon all of us. The conference was appropriately themed “Change: Challenge of Opportunity?” We did not know the depth of the cuts we would be facing well over a year ago as we brainstormed the theme for the conference, but in time found out just how appropriate it was.

The new Executive Board includes President Mr. Mike Steger, Director of Physical Plant Services at Palm Beach Atlantic University;  VP/President Elect Mr. Freddy Ulloa, AVP for Facilities Management at Barry University; VP for Financial Affairs Ms. Liz Gaulien, Housekeeping/Architectural Maintenance Manager at Jacksonville University; and VP for Administrative Affairs Mr. Jim Waechter, Director of Facilities Services at St. Petersburg College.

With the election of a new Executive Board came some new ideas. As a unit, our goals for FLAPPA for the next two years and beyond include continuing to grow our existing Vendor Based Training program, increased organizational exposure to our institutional members, growth in our institutional membership, greater communication with all of our membership (Institutional Members and Business Partners), and greater exposure to the membership for our Business Partners.

Our first step in this process is to update/upgrade the FLAPPA website. Watch for changes on the site that will make our communications much easier and to give you, our membership; a one stop shop for all your FLAPPA related needs. From this, it is our hope that membership in FLAPPA will truly become an invaluable tool and that our membership’s participation increases.

By our participation in FLAPPA, we bring the benefits, knowledge, and networking available from APPA and SRAPPA to our group. APPA and SRAPPA are incredibly supportive of our chapter. Over the past five years many of us have had the chance during our conferences to talk directly with leaders in both organizations and for this we are grateful. This year will be another opportunity to talk with APPA leadership; it is a great opportunity to get involved not only on a local level, but a regional and national level as well.

We look forward to serving you and continuing to grow FLAPPA together!
